Dark quartzite
Black quartzite gives the look of a veined black marble with the hardness of quartz. Negresco is a dark charcoal stone with white veins that run in a fine web. Infinity and Anubis carry bolder movement with gray and gold lines. Soyeux Noir, Del Mare and Tempest Black are deep, near black stones with lighter crystal running through them.
Finish matters most on black
Black quartzite comes in a wide spread of finishes here. Polished faces give the darkest color and the most contrast. Leathered and textured faces have a brushed, slightly rippled surface that hides fingerprints and water spots, which is why they are popular on black countertops. Honed faces sit in between, matte and smooth.
Thickness and use
Most black quartzite slabs are 1 1/4 inch, the thickness used for kitchen countertops, islands and waterfall ends. A few are 3/4 inch for walls and vanities. A black quartzite island against light cabinets is the most common use.
