Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Absolute Black and Black Cardosa?

Absolute Black is a near solid, even black. Black Cardosa has gray and white wavy veining across a dark ground, so it looks more like a veined stone.

Which black granite finish hides fingerprints best?

Leathered and brushed faces hide fingerprints and water spots best. Polished shows them the most.

Is black granite good for outdoor kitchens?

Granite is dense and handles sun and heat well, and black granite is a common choice for outdoor counters.

Solid and veined black granite

Black granite comes in two looks. Absolute Black and Absolute Black Extra are close to solid, an even deep black with almost no pattern, the classic choice for a modern kitchen. Virginia Mist, Black Cardosa and Nero Oceano carry movement: gray and white waves, veins or speckles across a dark ground. Titanium and Cosmic Black add gold, copper and white flecks, and Golden Eagle and Copacabana mix black with warmer tones.

The finish changes black granite

Polished black granite is deep, glossy and reflective. Honed gives a flat charcoal face. Leathered and brushed finishes add a soft texture that hides fingerprints and water spots, which on a black countertop makes a real difference. Cambrian Black is offered thermal antiqued, a rougher textured surface. Many stones are listed in more than one finish, so the look can be chosen separately from the stone.

Thickness and use

All black granite slabs here are 1 1/4 inch, the countertop thickness. Granite is one of the hardest and most heat tolerant countertop stones, and black granite is used on kitchen perimeters, islands, bar tops and outdoor kitchens.
