Fluted Bluestone marble on the wall
This rectangular wall-mount sink is carved by hand from Bluestone marble quarried in Turkey, a blue-gray stone with natural veining and patterns that differ in every piece. A hand-carved marble basin is, in a real sense, a sculpture that happens to hold water. The sink measures 16 inches wide, 24 inches long and 12 inches high, so the carved front has real height and presence on the wall. The exterior is fluted with vertical ribbing, and the finish is honed. It sits comfortably in both modern minimalist and traditional bathrooms, and it is made to be the focal point of the room.
Design
Vertical flutes in blue-gray stone
The vertical ribbing across the exterior does more than decorate. Each flute creates a line of shadow, so the face of the sink gains depth and changes as the light in the room moves through the day. The honed finish gives the stone a matte appearance. It is slightly less smooth than a glossy surface and helps conceal everyday water marks and minor scratching. The curved edges and contoured interior leave no corners where water and residue can collect, so cleaning needs no special technique. Bluestone has moderate color variation, and the blue and gray tones, along with the veining, will differ between sinks.

Where to use it
A tall front for a small room
Mounted on the wall, the sink frees up floor space and makes a powder room or a narrow bath feel more open. At 16 by 24 inches, the basin is generous enough for a primary bath, while the deep fluted front gives a small room a single strong feature. The blue-gray stone pairs with white plaster, warm wood, or deep green and navy walls, and both brass and black fixtures sit well against it. The 1.5 inch drain opening takes standard drain fittings.

Installation
Back the wall for a tall stone
A 12 inch tall block of marble is heavy, so the wall needs solid support. Blocking between the studs at the mounting height gives the brackets something to anchor into, and it is easiest to add while the wall is open. With no deck on the sink, a wall-mounted faucet is the natural choice, and its rough-in should be placed before the wall is closed so the spout lines up over the basin. A professional installer is recommended for the weight and for clean alignment of the plumbing.

Care
Bluestone is a porous calcite marble. Acidic liquids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch and gradually dull its honed finish, and sealing helps keep moisture and stains out. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically once a year.
