Brown onyx, polished and translucent
This round vessel sink is carved and polished by hand from brown onyx quarried in Turkey. Warm amber and honey striations run through the stone, with deeper chocolate tones in places, and the onyx is translucent: when light passes through it, from a window or a light placed behind or beneath it, the bowl takes on a glowing depth. It measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, with walls 2 to 3 cm thick, and it can sit on top of the counter or be set as a drop-in. It works with modern, contemporary and traditional bathrooms alike, without asking the rest of the room to change.

Design
Honey tones that let light through
Onyx is chosen for its colour and its translucency, and both are on show here. The brown and beige tones layer into bands and striations that read differently as the light changes through the day, and the polished finish on both the inside and the outside of the bowl brings up that luminous quality. The round bowl has curved edges and smooth walls, so water and soap have no hard-to-reach corners to hide in, and the rounded shape makes good use of the space inside the footprint. Each sink is carved and polished individually, so the contour, the striations and the finish character differ slightly from piece to piece. Moderate colour variation is normal: the shifts in tone and pattern are the stone's own, not imperfections, and they are what separate a carved onyx bowl from a factory-made one.

Where to use it
Sized for primary and guest baths
The 16 inch diameter and 6 inch height strike a balance: enough presence to be the focal point of a vanity, compact enough that it does not overwhelm most bathroom layouts. It suits a primary bath or a guest bathroom where the sink is meant to be noticed, and it is listed for bathroom and kitchen use, so it can also work as a bar or prep sink. Placing it near a window, or planning a light behind or under it, makes the most of the translucent stone. The warm brown pairs with dark wood, cream plaster, warm brass and bronze fittings, and it softens a bathroom finished in cooler stone. The 4 cm drain hole fits standard drain fittings, and the bowl works with a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout.

Installation
On the counter or dropped in
The sink is listed for above-counter or drop-in installation, and both work with an existing vanity without rebuilding it. Above the counter, it rests on a flat, level surface over a drain hole cut to match its 4 cm drain, and it is set in silicone. As a drop-in, the counter cutout must be sized to the bowl so the rim sits evenly and the joint can be sealed. Solid onyx is heavy, so the counter must be strong. When the bowl sits above the counter, the faucet has to reach over the 6 inch rim, so a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout is needed. Choose the faucet and the installation method before the counter is cut.

Care
Onyx is a porous calcite stone and softer than many natural stones, so acids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch and dull the polished surface. Resealing slows stain absorption and keeps the shine, and how often depends on use, typically every one to two years.
