Brown onyx, carved into a round bowl
This round vessel sink is carved by hand from brown onyx quarried in Turkey. It measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, a bowl-shaped basin that sits on top of the vanity and becomes the focal point of the counter. Each sink is cut from its own piece of stone, so the bands of brown, honey and beige that run through it are never repeated. The natural variations in color and veining are not imperfections: they are the stone itself, and they make it impossible to find an identical match.

Design
Stone that lets light through
Onyx is a translucent stone, and that is what sets it apart from most marble. Light can pass into the material, so the bowl seems to glow where daylight or a lamp reaches it, and the warm brown tones change through the day. Placed near a window or a wall sconce, the thinner areas of the stone show their layers more clearly. The sink is polished inside and out, a smooth, reflective finish that brings up the depth of the color and the fine banding of the onyx. The edges are curved and smooth, with no sharp corners for soap or grime to settle in. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick. Because each sink is carved by hand, its proportions, banding and color are its own, and moderate color variation between pieces is normal for this stone.

A bowl on the counter
A vessel sink sits on top of the counter like a bowl, so the whole carved form stays in view. That makes it a natural choice where the sink is meant to be the feature, from a modern powder room to a more traditional primary bath with wood cabinetry. At 16 inches across, it fits a narrow vanity and still gives a comfortable basin. Installation is often simpler than an undermount sink, because there is no large cutout in the counter: only a drain hole. The sink has a 4 cm drain hole that accepts standard drain fittings. It works well on an existing counter, which makes it a good choice for a full remodel as well as a single upgrade.

Installation
Confirm the faucet and vanity first
A vessel sink has a few technical requirements, and none of them are hard to get right if they are confirmed before the order. The counter must be flat, level and solid enough for a heavy stone bowl. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the bowl is set in silicone. Because the sink stands 6 inches above the counter, the overall rim height is higher than a standard basin, so many people choose a slightly shorter vanity. The faucet must reach over the rim: a tall vessel faucet sized for that height, or a wall-mounted spout. The drain usually needs a longer tailpiece to reach the trap. A professional installer is recommended for the weight of the stone and the drain connection.

Care
Onyx is a calcite stone, softer than many marbles and porous, so acids can etch the polished surface and dark liquids can stain it. Sealing helps keep moisture out, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
