Brown onyx, cut into an octagon
This vessel sink is hand carved from a single block of brown onyx quarried in Turkey and finished with a full polish. Onyx is a translucent stone, so warm brown and golden tones shift as light moves through the thinner parts of the bowl. The octagon outline gives it eight flat faces and crisp corners. It measures 17 inches in diameter and 5 inches high.

Design
Eight faces of polished onyx
Each face of the octagon is polished, inside and out, so the bowl catches light from every side. The banding in brown onyx runs in soft layers of amber, caramel and darker brown, and moderate variation in tone and veining means no two sinks are identical. The shape suits a transitional bathroom and holds its own in a modern or traditional one.
Translucent stone
Brown onyx lets light pass through its thinner sections, which shows the layered banding of the stone.
Octagon outline
Eight flat sides and defined corners, carved by hand from one block of onyx.
Where to use it
For a bathroom or a bar
The sink suits a bathroom vanity and can also serve a kitchen or bar counter where a smaller basin is enough. Sitting on top of the counter, the full octagon stays in view. A 4 cm drain hole takes a standard vessel drain, and the 2 to 3 cm wall gives the bowl a solid feel.

Installation
Setting an above-counter sink
An above-counter sink needs a flat, level counter that can carry solid stone. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the sink, and the bowl is set in a bead of silicone. With a 5 inch rim height, plan on a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet that reaches over the octagon.

Care
Onyx is a soft, porous calcite stone with a polished surface. Acidic liquids can etch the polish and strong pigments can stain it, so the sink is protected with a stone sealer, and how often it is resealed depends on how much it is used.
