Marble · Dining table
This oval dining table is made from Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey, with a polished top and C-shaped legs carved from the same stone. Calacatta Viola has deep veining in shades of violet and burgundy over a creamy white ground, and the pattern moves differently across every slab, so each table is one of a kind, with moderate variation from piece to piece. The table is 88 inches long, 36 inches wide and 29 inches high, a standard dining height. It is handmade to order rather than pulled from warehouse stock, and it is sized for a dining room that hosts family dinners as well as larger gatherings.

Design
The defining feature is the base. Two C-shaped legs, cut from solid Calacatta Viola rather than metal dressed to look like stone, carry the oval top, and because they come from the same marble, the veining continues from the surface into the supports. The curve of each leg opens toward the center, which keeps the base visually light under a long top and leaves room for knees along the sides. The oval outline softens the length of the table: there are no corners to catch on, and diners at the ends sit closer to the rest of the group than they would at a rectangle. The polished finish deepens the violet and burgundy tones and reflects light, so the veins seem to shift as daylight moves across the room. The edges are eased, rounding the rim so it feels soft to the touch. Each table is shaped individually by craftsmen in Turkey rather than cast from a mold, and that handwork shows in the way the legs meet the top.

Where to use it
At 88 by 36 inches, the table seats eight to ten people, which makes it the main table for holiday dinners and celebrations as well as for everyday meals. The 29 inch height is the standard for dining, so it works with regular dining chairs and leaves comfortable legroom for long meals. The oval is long enough for formal dinners yet narrow enough that conversation carries across it. In a modern dining room the dark veining makes a strong focal point against plain walls; in a classical room it sits naturally with molded paneling and a chandelier. Because Viola veining is deeper and more colored than a plain white marble, the table carries the room on its own, and the chairs, rug and lighting can stay quiet around it. Plan for clearance on every side so chairs can pull out freely, and center a pendant or chandelier over the long axis.

Delivery and setup
A marble table of this length is very heavy, so delivery needs a team of several people with the right equipment to carry it into the room. Measure doorways, hallways, stairs and turns before delivery day, as an 88 inch top needs a clear path. The table must stand on a level, solid floor; a stone table on an uneven floor will rock. Felt or rubber pads under the legs protect wood and tile floors. Once in place, the table should be lifted, never dragged, if it has to move.
Why we chose it

Made to order
This table is made to order, shaped individually for each buyer rather than taken from stock. If 88 inches is too long for the room, or the space calls for a wider or narrower oval, the table can be made in a custom size or finish. To discuss a custom table, contact us with the room dimensions and the number of seats needed.
Calacatta Viola is a porous calcite marble with a polished surface. Acids such as vinegar, wine and lemon can etch the polish, leaving dull spots, and strong pigments can stain the stone if they sit. Sealing helps the surface resist stains, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the table is used. With years of meals the polish develops a patina, and many owners find that light etching blends into the veining over time; deeper marks can be professionally restored because the table is solid stone.
