Calacatta Viola, carved into an oval
This oval vessel sink is hand carved from Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey. It measures 18 inches long, 14 inches wide and 5 inches high, a size that gives the bowl real presence on the counter while keeping practical proportions for a primary bath or a guest room. Each sink is sculpted from its own piece of stone, and no two are identical: the veining that runs across the white ground follows the block, not a pattern.

Design
Violet veins on polished white
Calacatta Viola is a white marble crossed by bold veins in shades of violet and gray, and the oval shape lets those lines curve around the bowl. The interior and exterior are hand polished, a smooth, glossy finish that brings out the depth of the veining and makes the white stone bright. A polished surface is also closed and smooth, so daily rinsing and wiping are simple. The oval form has curved edges throughout, with no angles where water can sit. The basin has no overflow, which keeps the inside clean and uninterrupted and leaves the full depth of the bowl usable. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick. Because every sink comes from a different part of the block, the amount of violet, the width of the veins and their direction differ from piece to piece. That variation is natural, and it is what makes each sink its own.

A bowl that suits many rooms
The oval vessel sits on top of the counter, so the carved bowl and its veining stay on view. Calacatta Viola fits modern, contemporary, traditional and transitional bathrooms, and the white ground with violet lines works with chrome, nickel, brass or gold fittings. Whether a room leans minimal or more classical, the stone carries it. At 18 by 14 inches, the bowl fits a standard vanity with counter space left on either side, and the 5 inch height gives a comfortable basin that keeps splashing down. The sink has a standard 4 cm drain hole that takes conventional drain fittings without special modifications.

Installation
Set it on top of the counter
This sink installs over the countertop. The counter must be flat, level and strong enough for a solid marble bowl, which is heavy for its size. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is bedded in silicone. Because there is no overflow, a drain without an overflow opening is needed. The bowl stands 5 inches above the counter, so the faucet must reach over the rim: a tall vessel faucet mounted on the counter or a wall-mounted spout. Choosing the faucet before the counter is cut keeps the spout and the drain lined up. A professional installer is recommended.

Care
Calacatta Viola is a calcite marble, so it is porous: acids such as lemon juice or vinegar can etch the polished surface. Resealing protects it, and how often depends on use, typically every 6 to 12 months in a busy bathroom.
