Calacatta Viola, carved as a wall-mount basin
This rectangular wall-mount sink is carved by hand from Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey. The stone has a bright white to creamy base crossed by deep purple, wine and charcoal veining, and that contrast is what gives the basin its presence on the wall. Every piece is carved from its own block, so the veins fall differently on each sink and no two are identical. It measures 18 inches wide, 32 inches long and 10 inches high, with flowing, organic lines rather than hard edges. The drain is hidden from view, and the sink can hang on the wall or sit on a vanity.
Design
A hidden drain and built-in backsplash
The drain is concealed within the basin, which keeps the lines of the stone clean and removes the visual clutter of an exposed drain. Along the back, a 4 inch backsplash is carved into the same piece as the bowl, so splash protection is built in rather than added afterward, and there is no joint between basin and wall to seal. The sink is polished inside and out. Inside, the smooth surface lets water run down to the drain; outside, the polish shows the purple veining from every angle, which matters on a wall-mount sink where the front and sides are always in view. The edges are curved, and soap residue rinses off the smooth marble without catching in corners. Moderate variation between pieces is normal: the amount of purple and the pattern of the veins differ with every block.
Hidden drain
The drain sits out of sight, keeping the inside of the basin clean and simple.
Carved backsplash
A 4" backsplash cut from the same block as the bowl, with no joint to seal.
Where to use it
Hung on the wall or set on a vanity
Mounted on the wall, the basin floats above the floor, which leaves the floor open, makes cleaning underneath simple and gives even a large primary bath a lighter feel. At 32 inches long, it suits a primary bath or a generous guest bath, and two can be hung side by side for a double vanity. The same sink can also sit on top of a vanity, with the backsplash against the wall. The deep purple veining reads well against plain plaster, pale stone or dark wood, and it pairs with brass, bronze or black fittings. The style is traditional, but the clean rectangular form works in a modern room as well.

Installation
Prepare the wall for stone
A marble basin this size is heavy, so a wall-mount installation needs solid backing. The wall should have blocking between the studs at the mounting height, which is easiest to add while the wall is open, and the sink is hung on brackets fixed into that blocking. Because the drain is hidden, the drain line and supply lines should be planned with the plumber before the wall is closed. A wall-mounted faucet is the natural partner for this basin, and its position should be set early so the rough-in matches. On a vanity, the top must be flat, level and strong. A professional installer is recommended.

This basin is made to order on one of two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Care
Calacatta Viola is a calcite marble, and like all marble it is porous, so acidic liquids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch the polished surface. Sealing helps it resist stains from toothpaste, soap and cosmetics, and how often it is resealed depends on use, commonly once a year.
