Carrara White marble in a helix form
Sculptural vessel sinks with flowing, organic shapes have become one of the most requested pieces in bathroom design, and this one is carved by hand from Carrara White marble quarried in Turkey. Its helix silhouette twists around the basin, so the bowl reads as a carved object first and a fixture second. A hand-carved marble basin is, in a real sense, a sculpture that happens to hold water. The stone has a soft white base with delicate gray veining, and that pattern cannot be repeated: every sink that leaves the workshop is a different piece from the one before it. It measures 20 inches wide, 23 inches long and 4 inches high, and it is polished inside and out. Because it sits on top of the vanity rather than inside it, the whole outside of the carved form stays in view, which is exactly what a sculptural sink is for.
Design
A twisting bowl, polished all over
The helix shape gives the sink a sense of movement. The sides turn as they rise toward the rim, and the polished surface catches and throws back light from every angle, so the form looks different from the doorway than it does at the mirror. Carrara White has been used in architecture and sculpture since ancient Rome, valued for exactly this combination of a soft white ground and fine gray lines. On a carved shape the veining follows the curves rather than running in straight bands, which makes each sink read as its own composition. The walls of the bowl are 2 to 3 cm thick, enough for a solid, substantial feel in the hand without making the form look heavy. The polish is applied to the interior and exterior alike. A polished face is smooth and dense to the touch, sheds dirt more easily than a rougher surface, and shows the depth of the stone at its clearest. Moderate variation in tone and veining between pieces is normal for this marble, so no two installations will be identical.

Where a sculptural bowl belongs
A sink like this works best where it can be seen: a powder room that guests use, a primary bath with a simple vanity, or a guest bath that needs one strong focal point. At 20 by 23 inches the bowl suits standard bathroom layouts and makes a statement without crowding the counter. White marble sits comfortably next to warm wood, painted cabinetry, plaster walls or darker stone, and the gray veining ties in with nickel or black fixtures. In a bathroom built around a few good materials rather than many, the carved bowl becomes the piece the rest of the room is planned around. The 4 cm drain hole accommodates typical vessel drain fittings without extensive changes to the plumbing. Because the sink sits above the counter, there is no undermount cutout to plan and no rim to reinforce, which makes it a practical choice when an existing vanity is being kept and only the sink and faucet are changing.

Installation
Set it on a flat, level counter
Above-counter installation keeps the work simple, but solid marble is heavy, so the vanity and countertop must be flat, level and sturdy. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is bedded in silicone. The silicone seat matters: an even bed spreads the weight of the stone and avoids pressure points that could stress the carving. Because the bowl sits on the counter, the faucet has to reach over the rim, so a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout is the usual choice. Decide on the faucet before the counter is cut, so the supply lines and the faucet hole land in the right place. Professional installation is recommended for the weight and for a clean, even seal.

Both are the same 20 by 23 by 4 inch helix bowl in polished Carrara White. If the counter calls for a different size, or the bathroom needs a different finish, the sink can be made to custom measurements as well. Care
Carrara White is a calcite marble, and like all marble it is a porous stone. Acids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch the polished surface, and sealing helps keep moisture and stains out. How often the sink is resealed depends on how much the bathroom is used, with busier bathrooms needing it more often.
