Marble · Above-Counter sink
Carrara White, a double apron sink
This double basin farmhouse sink is carved from Carrara White marble quarried in Turkey. It measures 18 inches wide, 36 inches long and 8 inches high, with an apron front and two basins side by side. Each sink is carved individually, so no two are the same. It is made for a working kitchen, where it is used every day, and the honed marble keeps a quiet, soft look while it does that work.
Design
Soft white, honed matte
The stone is a soft white with subtle gray veining, with moderate variation from sink to sink. The finish is honed, a matte surface that shows fewer fingerprints and water spots than a glossy one and hides minor scratches and etching far better than a gloss. Light marks from daily cooking blend into the stone, and over time the marble develops a patina that becomes part of the kitchen's character. The edges are curved and the basins are smooth, with few crevices for debris to collect.
Honed finish
A matte surface that hides minor marks and reduces glare.
Two basins
Wash on one side and rinse on the other.
Where to use it
Two basins for a working kitchen
The 8 inch high basins take large pots, stockpots and stacks of dishes, and the double layout lets one side hold soaking pans while the other stays free. A farmhouse sink with a front apron also keeps splashing in and reduces reaching and leaning during everyday work. Each basin has a 1.5 inch drain hole. The white and gray stone works with most counters and suits modern, traditional and transitional kitchens. It is listed for kitchen and bathroom use.
Size
36" L × 18" W × 8" H, two basins in one piece of marble.
Drains
1.5" drain hole in each basin.
Installation
A cabinet sized to the sink
The sink is listed for above-counter installation, with the apron front exposed. Solid marble of this size is heavy, so the base cabinet is sized to the sink, reinforced to carry it and set level. With two basins there are two drains to connect, so plan the plumbing for both before the cabinet is finished, and place the faucet so it reaches each basin. A professional installer is recommended.
Why we chose it
- Carved one at a timeEach sink is cut individually, so the veining is never repeated.
- Lasts for generationsProperly sealed and kept, a marble sink can serve a household for generations.
- Made to orderEach sink is made to order, with custom sizes and finishes on request.
Made to order
Made to order
This sink is made to order on two schedules. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice; both are the same honed 18 by 36 inch double sink. Custom sizes, shapes and finishes can also be made to fit a specific kitchen layout. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the cabinet.
Care
Carrara White is a porous calcite marble with a honed surface. Acids from cooking can etch it, and periodic resealing keeps up the barrier against stains; how often depends on how much the kitchen is used, typically once a year in a busy kitchen.
