A UFO-shaped travertine bowl
This round vessel sink is hand carved from light beige travertine quarried in Turkey. Its form is the reason people call it the UFO sink: a broad, curved rim 21 inches across that draws in toward an 11 inch basin at the center, with the whole piece standing 6 inches high. The surface is honed and filled, a matte finish in which the natural pores of the travertine are filled level. It is one piece of solid stone, made by hand rather than cast, and it gives a vanity a clear sculptural focal point without taking over a small room.

Design
Wide rim, compact basin
Seen from the side, the sink has the low, rounded profile of a saucer. The outer diameter gives the rim room to curve and catch light, while the inner basin keeps the working area compact and well defined, with curved walls that guide water toward the drain. The honed finish is matte rather than glossy, so the stone reads soft and warm instead of reflective. Filling the pores leaves fewer open cavities on the surface where soap and dirt can collect, and the smooth curved rim has no sharp edges. Each sink shows its own veining and moderate color variation, which is normal for natural travertine; the light beige base can carry cream, sand and pale gray notes.

Where to use it
Powder rooms and primary baths
The light beige tone sits comfortably beside a modern minimalist vanity, a rustic farmhouse one or a Mediterranean or traditional scheme. The sink suits a powder room or guest bath, where its shape gets noticed, and a primary bathroom where it is used every day. At 6 inches high the basin sits at a comfortable working level on top of the counter, and the 11 inch inner bowl is deep enough for hand washing without much splashing. A 4 cm drain hole takes a standard vessel drain, and the 2 to 3 cm stone wall gives the piece weight and stability on the counter.

Installation
Plan for an over-counter sink
This sink sits on top of the countertop. The counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry solid stone, and a drain hole is cut in it to line up with the sink's drain. The bowl is set in silicone so it stays in place. Because the rim is wide, the faucet needs enough reach to clear it: a tall vessel faucet with a long spout or a wall-mounted faucet both work, and the choice is best made before the counter is drilled. A professional installer can confirm the drain position and faucet height.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, and filling the surface does not change what lies beneath it. Acidic liquids can etch the honed finish and colored liquids such as hair dye or wine can mark it if absorbed. The sink is protected with a stone sealer, and how often it is resealed depends on how much it is used.
