A low oval in polished travertine
This oval vessel sink is carved and polished by hand in Turkey from beige travertine. It measures 20 inches wide, 12.5 inches long and 4.5 inches high, a low, compact bowl that sits on top of the counter. Each piece is carved individually, so the veining and colour of the stone arrive as one of a kind rather than repeated from a mold.
Design
Polish that shows the veining
Travertine forms in layers from mineral deposits, and that history shows in its veining and gentle shifts of beige. Polishing brings those details forward: the surface becomes smooth and reflective, and the pattern of the stone reads clearly instead of flattening into a uniform colour. The oval has curved edges and a smooth interior, so water runs toward the drain rather than pooling, and there are no corners to make daily cleaning difficult. At 4.5 inches high, the bowl keeps a low profile on the counter. Moderate colour variation is normal for travertine, and the tone and veining will differ from sink to sink.

Where to use it
A compact bowl for small vanities
The compact footprint suits powder rooms and guest baths, and it works in a primary bathroom too without taking over the counter. At 20 by 12.5 inches, the oval leaves more counter space free than a larger bowl, which helps on a narrow vanity. The warm beige pairs well with brass and other warm metal finishes, as well as wood vanities and plaster or tile walls.

Check the faucet reach first
Before ordering, check the faucet height and spout reach. A spout that is too short splashes onto the rim and counter. The bowl stands 4.5 inches above the counter, so a deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet must reach over the rim toward the center of the oval. Solid stone is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the sink's drain, and the bowl is set in silicone.

This sink is made to order on two production schedules, both in the 20 by 12.5 inch size with a polished finish. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. The oval can also be made in a custom size or finish. Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as vinegar or lemon can etch the polished surface, and cosmetics, toothpaste and cleaning products can stain it if it is not sealed. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically every six to twelve months.
