Translucent onyx, carved in one piece
This round sink is carved from a single solid block of onyx quarried in Turkey. Its beige and grey stone is translucent, so light passes into it and brings out the veining from within. The bowl is 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, polished inside and out, and no two pieces share the same pattern.
Design
Stone that lets light through
Translucency is what sets onyx apart. Daylight shows the organic pattern of the veining across the surface, and light from behind or below makes the stone glow with warmth and depth. The polish gives the interior a mirror-like finish. The form is simple and round, with curved edges and no crevices where water and grime can collect. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick. The sink has no overflow, which keeps the rim clean and uninterrupted. It is carved from one solid piece, with no fillers or adhesives holding it together, and moderate colour variation in beige and grey from piece to piece is normal for this stone.

Where to use it
Above the counter or below it
The sink can sit above the counter as a vessel, where the full bowl is visible, or be installed as an undermount sink below the counter surface. It suits bathrooms and kitchens. Because the stone is translucent, it pairs well with lighting: LED light placed beneath or behind the bowl turns it into a soft source of light in the evening, while daylight shows the natural pattern. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings; with no overflow, the drain should be one made for sinks without an overflow.

Installation
Choose vessel or undermount early
Solid stone is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong either way. As a vessel, the sink sits on the counter over a drain hole cut to match the 4 cm drain, is set in silicone, and needs a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet that reaches over the rim. As an undermount, the counter cutout is sized to the sink, which is supported from below. Plan any backlighting with the vanity.

This sink is made to order on two production schedules, both in the 16 inch size with a polished finish. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Care
Onyx is a soft, porous calcite stone, so acidic products can etch the polished surface and dull its translucency, and sealing helps keep stains out. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically every six to twelve months.
