Calacatta White marble, a 19 inch round bowl
This round vessel sink is hand-carved from Calacatta White marble quarried in Turkey. The bowl is 19 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, and it sits on top of the vanity where the full shape of the stone stays in view. The surface is a luminous white with delicate gray veining, polished inside and out. Each sink is carved from solid marble by hand, so the veining and the color variation of one bowl are never repeated in another.
Design
A polished bowl that holds the light
The polished interior and exterior give the bowl a reflective surface that picks up daylight and lamp light alike, and the gloss brings the gray veining forward against the white ground. On a round form the veins wrap around the curve, so the pattern changes as you walk past it. Calacatta is valued for its bright white background and distinctive gray veining, and hand carving keeps that natural pattern intact rather than cutting it into a uniform shape. The edges are curved and the construction is smooth, which leaves no sharp rim to chip and no tight corners where dirt can build up. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this marble. Each sink is an individual piece of stone, and with care it develops depth and patina over the years rather than looking tired.

Where to use it
Proportioned for real bathrooms
At 19 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, the bowl is generous enough for washing hands, rinsing a face and the rest of a morning routine, yet it does not overwhelm a compact bathroom. The circular form makes good use of the space inside the bowl, and the 6 inch height sets the rim at a comfortable working level on a standard vanity. Because it sits above the counter, the sink becomes the centerpiece of the vanity instead of disappearing into it. White marble with gray veining works with modern, traditional and transitional bathrooms, and it suits chrome, nickel, brass or black fixtures. The bowl has a pre-drilled 4 cm drain hole for standard drain fittings, and its walls are 2 to 3 cm thick.

Installation
Set it on a flat counter
Solid marble is heavy, so the counter or vanity top must be flat, level and strong enough to carry the bowl. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone around its base. Because the rim stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout both work. A 19 inch bowl also needs enough counter depth around it, so set the sink in place and check the faucet reach before the counter is cut. A plumber can confirm the drain and supply positions at the same time.

Care
Calacatta White is a polished calcite marble and, like all marble, a porous stone. Acidic substances can etch the polish and dark liquids can stain the white ground if they sit, and sealing slows that absorption. How often the bowl is resealed depends on how much it is used.
