Limestone · Vessel sink

An oval bowl of beige limestone

This vessel sink is carved by hand from a single block of beige limestone quarried in Turkey. Limestone forms over millions of years from layers of shell and marine sediment, and it carries that history in soft, earthy tones: cream, warm beige and the occasional hint of gray. The bowl is an oval, 22 inches long, 18 inches wide and 6 inches high, with walls 2 to 3 cm thick. That size gives it a real presence on the vanity while the rounded outline keeps the proportions calm. Because each sink comes from a different part of the stone, no two are exactly alike.

Design

Honed and filled, soft to the touch

The surface is honed and filled. Small natural voids in the limestone are filled, and the stone is then honed to a smooth, matte finish with no shine. The result is soft to the touch and quiet to look at, and the rounded oval profile lets light fall gently across the bowl through the day. When water touches the stone the color deepens and brightens for a moment, a small detail that shows this is real stone. A honed surface also keeps water spots and mineral marks less visible between cleanings. Moderate variation in color and texture between pieces is normal for limestone, and the shade of each bowl will differ slightly.

Where to use it

A calm centerpiece for the bath

Limestone has a warm, tactile surface, and it is often chosen for bathrooms meant to feel calm and close to nature. This bowl suits a primary bath or a guest bath in a modern, organic or traditional style, and its beige tone pairs well with wood vanities, plaster walls and brass or matte black fixtures. Sitting on the counter, the full exterior of the bowl is on view from every side. A stone bowl also has a solid, quiet feel in use. The 4 cm drain hole accepts standard plumbing fixtures, and the bowl has no overflow hole, so the rim stays clean and uninterrupted.

Installation

Setting a vessel on the counter

As a vessel sink, the bowl sits on top of the counter. The counter needs to be flat and level, with a single hole drilled for the drain, lined up with the opening in the bowl. The sink is set in place with silicone, and a vessel drain without overflow completes the connection. The faucet must clear the 6 inch rim: a tall vessel faucet on the counter, or a faucet mounted on the wall behind, both work well. Settle on the faucet before the counter is drilled so the supply lines can be placed to match.

Made to order

Made to order

This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. For bathrooms with particular requirements, the bowl can also be made in a custom size or finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the vanity.

Care

Limestone is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as lemon, vinegar or descalers can etch it, and liquids can soak in if the surface is left unsealed. A penetrating sealer protects it from stains and moisture, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used, typically once a year.
