Honey onyx, carved into a round bowl
This 16 inch round sink is carved by hand from honey onyx quarried in Turkey. Every piece is one of a kind: the warm honey, brown and beige tones and the flowing natural veining are patterns the stone formed over a very long time, revealed by carving rather than printed on. The bowl is cut from a solid block of onyx, a banded stone known for its warmth and for the way light seems to move through it.
Design
Polished bands of honey and brown
The polished finish gives the onyx depth and a soft glow, catching light across the natural bands and bringing out the translucent quality of the stone, which shows most when it is lit. The bowl is curved, a shape that helps keep splashing down, and it has no overflow, so the interior is smooth and plain with no place for water to pool. Natural stone develops character with age: the honey tones deepen slightly over the years and the patina of use becomes part of the piece. Moderate color variation is normal for this stone, so the balance of brown and beige and the pattern of the bands will differ on every sink.
Polished onyx
A glossy surface that shows the warm bands and translucent depth of the stone.
No overflow
A smooth curved bowl with nothing to interrupt the stone.

On the counter or dropped in
The sink is made for two installations. It can sit on top of the counter as a vessel, where the whole carved bowl is on show, or be dropped into a counter opening for a lower profile. At 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, it fits a standard vanity without a custom build, and the 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings. It is listed for kitchen use as well as the bathroom, so it also suits a bar sink. The warm onyx pairs with brass and bronze, dark wood and cream walls, and it is striking with a light placed so the stone glows.

Installation
Vessel or drop-in
Solid onyx is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong for either installation. As a vessel, the bowl sits over a drain hole cut for the 4 cm drain and is set in silicone, and the faucet must reach over a rim 6 inches above the counter: a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. As a drop-in, the counter opening is cut to fit the bowl and the faucet sits on the counter behind it. Choose the installation and the faucet together, before the counter is cut. A professional installer is recommended, since onyx is heavy and solid in the hand.

Care
Onyx is a porous calcite stone and softer than marble, so acids can etch the polished surface and dull it. It is best sealed during installation, and how often it is resealed after that depends on use.
