Travertine · Vessel sink

A round beige travertine bowl

This round sink is hand carved from beige travertine quarried in Turkey. It measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, and its surface is honed and filled: a matte finish with the natural pores of the stone filled level. Travertine forms over very long periods in layers, and that history shows in the veining and color shifts across every bowl. No two sinks share the same pattern, so each one is unique rather than a repeat of a mold.

Design

Matte stone, soft curves

The honed finish is understated and grounded, matte rather than glossy, so the warm beige color of the stone reads clearly. The curved rim and smooth edges catch light in soft layers and leave no sharp corners. Filling the pores closes the small cavities that open travertine has, which leaves fewer places for dirt to settle and gives the bowl a smoother feel. The stone shows moderate color variation, from sand and cream to light tan, and the exact pattern differs on every piece.

Where to use it

Sized for standard vanities

At 16 inches across and 6 inches high, the bowl fits a standard bathroom vanity without overwhelming a compact powder room. Set on top of the counter, it becomes the focal point of the vanity, and only a drain hole is needed in the countertop, which preserves usable surface area in a small bathroom. It can also be dropped into a cutout so the bowl sits lower. The basin has no overflow, which keeps the inside of the bowl clean, and a 4 cm drain hole takes a standard drain. The 2 to 3 cm stone wall gives it a solid feel.

Installation

Vessel or drop-in

As a vessel, the sink rests on top of the counter. The countertop must be flat, level and strong enough for solid stone, with a drain hole cut to match, and the bowl is set in silicone. As a drop-in, the counter is cut to an opening sized to the sink so the rim rests on the countertop. In either case the faucet matters: since there is no overflow, a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet with a clean spout is the usual choice, and it is best selected before the counter is cut. A professional installer can confirm the cutout and drain position.

Why we chose it

  • Unique patternEach bowl carries its own veining and color, carved from natural travertine.
  • Filled surfaceFilled pores give a smoother, more even surface than open travertine.
  • Flexible fittingInstall it as a vessel on the counter or as a drop-in.

Made to order

Made to order

This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, and the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Custom sizes and finishes are available when a different diameter or height would suit the vanity better. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the counter.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, even with its pores filled. Acidic liquids such as lemon juice or vinegar can etch the honed surface, and the stone is protected with a sealer. How often it is resealed depends on how much water and use it sees.
