A square cone pedestal in white marble
This pedestal sink is hand-carved from two solid blocks of New York White marble quarried in Turkey, with no seams in either piece. A square, cone-shaped basin rests on top of a pedestal column, and together they stand 36 inches tall with a 16 by 16 inch footprint. Every sink is unique, with its own natural veining and mineral patterns in the white stone, and no two pieces are ever identical.

Design
A cone-shaped basin on a column
The basin is a square that narrows like a cone toward the column, which gives the piece a light look from the side while keeping it stable on the floor: sculptural, but grounded. It is polished inside and out. The smooth interior is easy to use day to day, and the polished exterior lets the whole pedestal read as one finished piece of stone in the room. Polishing shows the character of the marble rather than masking it, bringing the veining forward against the white. The walls are 2 to 3 cm of solid marble. Moderate variation in veining and colour between sinks is normal.

Where to use it
A free-standing centerpiece
Standing on its own against a plain wall, the sink becomes the main feature of a bathroom. It suits modern, contemporary, traditional and transitional rooms. The 16 inch square basin gives a generous working surface, and the 36 inch total height is a comfortable standing height for daily use. The two marble pieces are made for standard plumbing, with a 4 cm drain hole and a 4 inch back pipe hole for the connections.

Installation
A strong floor and planned plumbing
A solid marble pedestal is heavy and rests on a small base, so the floor must be level and strong enough to carry it. The back pipe hole lets the drain run to the wall behind the column; plan the drain and supply lines before the wall and floor are finished so they arrive in the right place. Choose the faucet at the same time, so its supply lines are run to match. A professional installer is recommended, both for the weight and for setting the basin on the column.

Care
This is a calcite marble, so it is a porous stone: acids such as vinegar and lemon can etch the polished surface. Resealing maintains its protection, and how often it is done depends on use.
