A gold travertine pedestal in one block
This rectangular pedestal sink is carved from a single monolithic block of gold travertine quarried in Turkey. Basin and base are one piece of stone, shaped as a clean rectangular prism that stands on the floor on its own. Because travertine forms over long stretches of time, every block is different, and no two of these pedestals are alike. It stands 33.5 inches tall on a compact footprint of 14 by 21.5 inches. The gold stone has cream undertones, natural pitting and veining throughout, and the simple geometry lets that character carry the design.
Design
Rough and honed, with relief
The finish combines rough and honed surfaces. The interior basin is honed, smooth and matte, a surface that is comfortable to use and less slippery when wet. The exterior of the pedestal is left rough and textured, with triangular relief detailing that catches the light differently through the day and gives the plain prism shape depth. The clean-lined form keeps the piece modern, while the warm gold travertine adds an organic quality. The pitting and veining in the stone are natural features of travertine, not defects, and moderate color variation between pieces is normal.

Where to use it
Compact, with no vanity
At 14 by 21.5 inches, the pedestal takes up far less floor than a vanity, and it fits layouts where a double vanity, or even a standard cabinet, will not. The 33.5 inch height brings the basin to a comfortable working level. A pedestal keeps the plumbing out of sight inside or behind the stone and leaves the floor around it open, which gives a simple, uncluttered look in modern, minimal, Mediterranean and transitional bathrooms. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain connections without special fittings. A shelf or wall niche nearby is worth planning, since the pedestal itself offers no storage.

Installation
Level floor, planned plumbing
A pedestal of solid travertine is heavy, so the floor must be level and strong enough to carry it without flexing. The drain and supply lines can come from the wall behind the pedestal or up through the floor, and their positions should be set to suit the footprint before the floor is finished. A wall-mounted faucet above the basin is a common choice for a stand-alone sink, and its supply lines are best run while the wall is open. A professional installer is recommended for moving and setting the stone.

Care
Gold travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids can etch the honed basin and sealing helps it resist stains and water absorption. How often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
