A pumpkin bowl in beige travertine
This vessel sink is hand-shaped from one solid block of beige travertine quarried in Turkey. Its pumpkin form, a round bowl with soft lobes running from rim to base, gives it a distinctive silhouette on the counter, the kind of sculptural piece that defines a restrained powder room. At 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, with walls 2 to 3 cm thick, it is sized for a powder room or a primary bathroom planned around the fixture. Because each sink is carved from its own block, no two are identical: the colour, the bands and the small marks of the stone change from piece to piece.
Design
Soft lobes, no hard corners
The pumpkin shape is more than decoration. The curved walls catch light along each lobe, and the smooth transitions between them leave no harsh corners where grime can build up, so everyday cleaning is simpler than the sculpted outline suggests. The surface is honed and filled. Honing gives a smooth matte finish that does not show every splash, and filling closes the natural pores of the travertine, so the face resists dirt and mineral deposits better than untreated stone. Travertine forms when mineral-rich water releases its calcium carbonate, which crystallises in layers and often traps small pockets, leaving the stone somewhat porous when dry. The striations and bands of colour come from the minerals present as the stone formed. Moderate colour variation between sinks is normal, and the warm beige tones sit easily with most palettes.

A focal point on the vanity
A vessel sink draws the eye before any other fixture in a bathroom, and the pumpkin bowl is made for that role. It works in a contemporary, minimalist room as easily as on a vanity with traditional cabinetry, because the form is classic rather than tied to a passing trend. Sitting on top of the counter, it leaves the cabinet space below free for storage, since there is no bowl hanging under the counter top. The 16 inch diameter suits a powder room vanity and still leaves room for daily use in a primary bath, and the 6 inch height gives the bowl presence while keeping the rim at a comfortable working height on a vanity of standard height. The generous proportions leave room around the bowl to place the faucet where it works best.

Installation
Set on a flat, strong counter
This is a vessel sink, set on top of the counter. Solid travertine is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry it. The only cut needed is a drain hole in the counter, lined up with the 4 cm drain in the bowl, and the sink is set in silicone to keep it in place and seal the joint. Because the rim stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Choosing the faucet before the counter is cut lets the faucet hole or the wall supply lines be placed to suit the bowl. A plumber or stone installer can set it in a short visit once the counter is ready.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, and acids can etch it, so sealing matters. The filled, honed surface resists staining better than unfinished stone when it is kept sealed, and how often it is resealed depends on use, typically about once a year.
