Marble · Above-Counter sink
This round vessel sink is carved by hand from a single block of gray marble quarried in Turkey. It is a fixture made for daily use, but it reads as a carved object first: a solid stone bowl that sits on the counter and happens to hold water. Turkish marble has been used in architecture for centuries and is known for strong veining and deep color, and this piece shows both. The polished surface brings out the depth and movement of the stone, so the gray tones and lighter veins look richer than they would on a matte face. Every sink that leaves the workshop is one of a kind. The veining, the mineral inclusions and the surface character of the stone cannot be repeated, and even two basins carved from the same block will differ from each other.

Design
The color sits in the cool gray range, with veining that moves through the bowl in lines and clouds of lighter and darker stone. That restraint is what makes it easy to place: the gray works with clean, minimal vanities and with more traditional wood or painted cabinetry, and it does not depend on a passing trend. The polish is applied inside and out, so the whole exterior of the carved form catches the light. The rim is curved rather than cut square, with smooth, rounded edges that are comfortable to touch and leave no sharp corners to chip. The interior follows the same soft curve down to the drain, so water runs to the center and there are no crevices where it can pool. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this stone, and the pattern on each piece will differ from the next. That variation is the clearest sign that the bowl is natural marble and not a cast copy of it.
A glossy finish that deepens the gray and shows the full movement of the veining.
Rounded, smooth edges with no sharp corners to catch a hand or trap dirt.

Where to use it
At 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, the bowl takes a practical footprint on the counter while still giving a generous basin for washing. It suits a powder room vanity, where it becomes the first thing a guest sees, and it is roomy enough for daily use in a primary bath. As a vessel, it sits on top of the vanity surface rather than being set into it, so the entire exterior of the carved stone stays on view. The open rim also leaves every edge within reach, which makes the area around the sink simple to keep clean. The 4 cm drain hole accepts standard drain fittings. The gray pairs well with warm wood, white plaster, matte black or satin brass hardware, and with both modern and traditional tile.

Installation
This is an above-counter sink, so it rests on top of the vanity. Solid marble is heavy, and the counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry it. A drain hole is cut through the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain in the bowl, and the sink is set in a bead of silicone that holds it in place and seals the joint. Because the bowl stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet has to reach over the rim. A tall vessel faucet mounted on the counter works, as does a spout mounted on the wall behind the sink. It is best to choose the faucet before the counter is cut, so the faucet hole and the drain can be placed together and the spout lands near the center of the bowl.

Why we chose it

Made to order
Each sink is made to order on one of two production schedules. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. The polished 16 by 6 inch bowl is the standard size, but the dimensions, the shape or the finish can also be changed so the sink fits a particular counter or layout. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the vanity.
This is a polished, porous marble, so acids such as citrus or vinegar can etch the surface and dull the shine, and sealing helps keep water and stains from soaking in. How often the stone is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
