Brown Traveling Travertine Pedestal Sink Curved Honed 16" x 33.5", photo 2 of 2

Travertine · Stand-Alone sink

Noce travertine, carved as a pedestal sink

This freestanding pedestal sink is carved from Noce travertine quarried in Turkey, a brown stone whose name means walnut. It stands 33.5 inches tall, and its curved form changes in diameter from 16 inches to 19.5 inches along its height, so the whole piece reads as one continuous shape from floor to basin. It is carved from a single block, which makes every sink unique, with natural color variations and subtle veining that are not repeated. It takes up little floor space while still standing out as the main piece in the room.

Design

A honed walnut-brown column

The finish is honed: a dulled, almost matte sheen that gives the brown stone a rustic but refined look. On a working sink this is a practical choice. A matte face shows fewer fingerprints and water spots, and small scratches and etch marks blend into the texture of the stone rather than catching the light. The basin and pedestal are carved as one curved form, and the bowl gives generous room for washing. Every sink is shaped by hand, so the subtle variations in tone and veining are part of the stone's character, and moderate variation from piece to piece is normal. Over time honed travertine ages gently and keeps its look without constant upkeep.

Where to use it

Open floor in a small bath

A pedestal sink keeps the floor open, which makes a room feel airier and larger, and it suits small or narrow bathrooms, powder rooms and guest baths in particular. Without a vanity box, the flooring runs uninterrupted around the base and the room feels less crowded. The clean, streamlined shape fits a modern minimalist bathroom, a rustic one or a vintage-style room, and in a larger primary bath it offers an alternative to standard cabinetry. The 4 cm drain opening takes standard plumbing fittings.

Installation

A level floor and planned plumbing

As a freestanding piece of solid stone, the sink is heavy and rests its full weight on the floor, so the floor must be level and strong enough to carry it. The drain and supply lines can come from the wall behind the sink or up through the floor, and that choice should be made before the floor and wall are finished so the plumbing sits inside the footprint of the pedestal. Because there is no counter, the faucet is usually mounted on the wall, and its height should be set to reach over the basin. A professional installer is recommended to place the sink, level it and connect the drain.

Made to order

Made to order

This pedestal sink is made to order on one of two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Both are the same 33.5 inch honed travertine piece. It can also be made in a custom height, diameter or finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the room.

Care

Noce travertine is a porous calcite stone, and acids in wine, vinegar, coffee or strong cleaners can etch it. Sealing helps it resist stains and moisture, and how often it is resealed depends on use, commonly about once a year.
