A brown travertine cone pedestal
This stand-alone pedestal sink is hand-carved from solid brown travertine quarried in Turkey. The basin sits on a square cone that tapers down to the floor, so the whole piece reads as one sculptural column rather than a sink on a cabinet. It measures 16 inches wide, 16 inches long and 36 inches high. Each sink is chiseled by hand from two solid blocks of travertine, never assembled from fragments or reconstructed stone, and no two pieces are identical in colour, veining or texture.
Design
A square cone in polished stone
The cone shape is the point of this design. A square basin at the top narrows gradually toward the base, which keeps the footprint small and gives the sink a strong vertical line in the room. The surfaces are polished inside and out, so the stone reflects light and the brown tones look deep and warm. Travertine forms in layers, and on the sides of the cone those layers show as brick-like bands of colour with veining and the small natural pits of the stone running through them. Those differences are a record of how the stone formed, not flaws, and they change from one block to the next. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick, solid stone throughout. The polished interior is smooth, so debris has little texture to catch on, and the carved form has no joints where soap can collect. Moderate colour variation between pieces is normal, and the shade of brown and the pattern of the bands will differ from sink to sink.

Where to use it
Open floor, no vanity
A pedestal sink needs no vanity cabinet, which frees floor space and leaves the room feeling open. That suits smaller bathrooms and powder rooms, where a cabinet would crowd the floor, and minimal bathrooms where a single stone form is enough. The style leans traditional, and the warm brown works with modern, contemporary and transitional rooms as well, against plaster, wood or plain tile. At 16 by 16 inches, the footprint is compact; at 36 inches high, the rim sits at a comfortable standing height for washing. A natural stone pedestal also stays in place through later renovations, since there is no cabinet to wear out or replace. The sink has a 4 cm drain hole and a 4 inch back pipe hole for the plumbing connection.

Installation
A level floor and planned pipes
As a stand-alone piece, the sink rests its full weight on the floor, and solid travertine is heavy. The floor must be level and strong enough to carry it, and the sink should be set where it can stand plumb without shims. Plumbing can come from the wall or from the floor, and the back pipe hole lets the drain line run out of the back of the pedestal. Decide on the faucet early: a wall-mounted faucet needs its supply lines in the wall at the right height before the wall is finished. A professional installer is recommended to place the sink and connect the drain cleanly.

The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as vinegar or lemon can etch the polished surface, and sealing helps keep water and stains out. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically every year or so.
