The Troia travertine cylinder
The Troia Cylinder Sink is handcrafted in Turkey from light beige travertine. Its tapered cylindrical silhouette is clean and modern, a sculptural piece that sits on the counter rather than disappearing into it. It measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, with walls 2 to 3 cm thick. Natural colour and texture variations make every sink one of a kind.
Design
A tapered cylinder, honed matte
The finish is honed and filled. A honed surface shows the true character of the travertine without shine, so it feels tactile and natural rather than slick, and it shows less water spotting than a high-gloss finish. Filling closes the natural pits of the stone for a smoother, easier surface. The outline is a simple tapered cylinder, with clean lines that read as modern next to contemporary tile work and minimalist hardware. Inside, the basin is curved and transitions smoothly down to the drain, which keeps dirt from settling. Travertine varies in colour and texture from block to block, and those variations are part of the stone, not defects: moderate variation between sinks is normal.

Where to use it
Raised on the counter
As an above-counter sink, the Troia raises the stone into view, so the veining, colour variations and texture can be seen from several angles. It also leaves the space below the counter free for storage, which helps in a bathroom where every inch counts. The light beige pairs with warm and cool palettes, from earthy wood vanities to cool marble and gray tile, and suits a powder room that needs a focal point as well as a primary bath. The 4 cm drain hole is compatible with standard plumbing, and the 16 inch footprint leaves counter space for a faucet and a soap dish.

Installation
A flat counter, a tall faucet
This sink is installed over the countertop. Solid travertine is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry it. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone to hold it and seal the joint. Because the rim stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Choose the faucet before the counter is cut so its hole or supply lines can be placed to suit the sink.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, and acids can etch the honed surface. Kept sealed, it resists staining when spills are dealt with promptly, and how often it is resealed depends on use.
