Hand Carved Travertine Beige Pedestal Bathroom Stone Sink, photo 2 of 2

Travertine · Stand-Alone sink

A curved travertine pedestal in three parts

This freestanding pedestal sink is carved by hand from beige travertine quarried in Turkey. It combines a sculptural form with everyday use: a curved basin raised on a carved column that stands on the floor, with no vanity cabinet around it. The warm beige tones and natural texture of the stone suit a powder room or guest bath, where a single fixture sets the character of the whole room.

Design

Three blocks, two textures

The sink is carved from three separate travertine blocks rather than one, and each part is shaped and finished to fit the others. The curved bowl and the tapered base are cut from the stone, not molded, which is why every piece carries its own small variations in tone and veining. The finish is rough and honed. The basin is honed smooth, a soft matte surface that is pleasant to touch and simple to clean. The middle of the pedestal carries a combed texture of thin parallel grooves that catch the light and bring out the natural lines in the travertine. Together, the two surfaces give the sink a depth that a single uniform finish would not. The muted beige grows richer as the stone ages. There is no overflow, which keeps the curved form clean, and moderate color variation between pieces is normal for this stone.

Where to use it

No vanity, more floor

The basin is 16 inches in diameter, and the whole sink stands 33.5 inches tall, proportions that feel both architectural and organic. Because it rests on the floor, there is no vanity cabinet, which opens up the layout of a compact bathroom or powder room. It can be centered on a wall, angled into a corner or placed where a cabinet would not fit, as long as the drain line can reach it. The warm beige and the natural stone texture sit well in both clean contemporary rooms and classical interiors. The 4 cm drain hole takes a standard drain fitting.

Installation

Plan the floor and the pipes

A stand-alone sink carries all of its weight on the floor, and solid travertine is heavy, so the floor must be level and strong. The drain and supply lines run either from the wall behind the sink or up through the floor, and their positions should be fixed before the wall and floor are finished. With no counter, the faucet is usually mounted on the wall above the basin, so its height and reach are planned with the plumbing. The three carved parts are set and aligned on site, and a professional installer is recommended to level the pedestal and connect the 4 cm drain.

Why we chose it

  • Hand carvedBowl and pedestal are shaped by hand from Turkish travertine, with no two pieces alike.
  • Two texturesA honed basin and a combed column give the stone depth and grip on the light.
  • Made to orderEach sink is made to order, with custom sizes and finishes on request.

Made to order

Made to order

This pedestal is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. It can also be made in a custom size or finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the room.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids can etch the honed basin and moisture can soak in if the stone is left unsealed. It develops warmth and character as it ages, and how often it is resealed depends on use.
