Tundra Grey marble, 40 inches long
This rectangular vessel sink is carved by hand from Tundra Grey marble quarried in Turkey. It is a generous piece: 40 inches long, 18 inches wide and 4 inches high, a long, shallow basin that sits on top of the counter. The soft gray stone carries fine natural veining, and each sink is cut from its own block, so the pattern is never repeated. The size gives room for daily washing and grooming without the cramped feel of a small bowl, and the low profile keeps the long form calm on the vanity. It suits a primary bath with a wide counter, and the scale also makes it a strong single feature in a larger powder room.
Design
A honed gray stone
The finish is honed, which gives the sink a muted, matte look. A honed surface feels smooth but does not shine, and it is better at hiding fingerprints, water spots and light mineral marks between cleanings, so the basin keeps a cared-for look in a busy bathroom. It also has more grip when wet. When water runs over the stone, the gray darkens and the veining comes forward, giving the surface depth without a high gloss. Tundra Grey has distinctive gray coloring with subtle veins, and the exact tone and line pattern depend on the block. Moderate color variation between pieces is normal for this marble. The basin is a clean rectangle with walls 2 to 3 cm thick, and its curved inside edges mean there are no sharp corners where soap and water collect. The long, low form spreads the stone across the counter rather than stacking it high, which suits the shallow 4 inch height.

At 40 inches, this sink needs a wide vanity, and it rewards one: the basin becomes the main feature of the counter. The soft gray works in contemporary, transitional and traditional rooms, and it sits easily with minimalist tile, brass or black fittings and warm wood vanities. The long basin gives space to wash without splashing the counter, and it suits a shared bathroom where two people use the sink at once. The sink has a 4 cm drain hole that takes standard drain connections and no overflow, so water drains straight through.

Installation
A flat counter and a tall faucet
This is an above-counter sink, and a 40 inch piece of solid marble is heavy. The counter must be flat, level and well supported along the full length of the basin, because the rectangular form spreads its weight across the top. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is bedded in silicone. Since the basin stands 4 inches above the counter, the faucet has to reach over the rim: a deck-mounted vessel faucet with enough height or a wall-mounted spout. With a basin this long, place the faucet so it lands near the drain. Decide on the faucet before the counter is cut. A professional installer is recommended for the weight and the drain alignment.

Care
Tundra Grey is a calcite marble, so it is porous and acids such as vinegar can etch its honed surface. Sealing slows down absorption, and how often the sink is resealed depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
