Black andesite in a tapered cone
This vessel sink is carved by hand from black andesite, a volcanic stone quarried in Turkey. Each sink is cut from a solid piece, so no two are ever identical. Andesite is dense and durable, and it holds up well to daily water, moisture and changes in temperature. The result is a dark, quiet fixture that anchors a bathroom without any decoration of its own.
Design
A V-shaped bowl, honed matte
The profile is a V-shaped taper: smooth sides that narrow from a wide rim toward the base, a conical form that catches the light along its slope and is easier to clean than a deep, straight-sided bowl. The finish is honed matte on both the interior and the exterior, a tactile, soft surface rather than a slick one. A matte black face also shows fewer water spots between cleanings than a high gloss. Because each sink is shaped by hand, every curve and edge carries the work of the maker, and small shifts in the black tone and in the texture of the finish are normal. They are evidence of a natural material, not defects. Moderate color variation between pieces is expected.

Where to use it
A dark bowl for any vanity size
The sink measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches deep, compact enough for a powder room vanity and substantial enough for a primary bath. It installs above the counter, so the full tapered form sits in view on the vanity. The deep black works in contemporary, transitional, traditional and minimal rooms, and it is especially strong against pale stone, white plaster or light wood. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings, and the bowl pairs well with matte black, satin brass or nickel faucets.

Installation
Set it on a flat counter
The counter must be flat, level and strong, because solid stone is heavy. A drain hole is cut through the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in a bead of silicone. Since the rim stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it, so a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout is the right choice. Decide on the faucet before the counter is cut.

Care
Andesite is a dense volcanic stone, but like all natural stone it has pores, and unsealed it can absorb water and darken unevenly. Strong acids can also mark the honed surface. Sealing keeps it protected, and how often it is resealed depends on use.
