Calacatta Viola with a 10 inch backsplash
This wall-mounted bathroom sink is carved from a single block of Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey. The stone is a bright white with bold gray veining, and every block is different, so each sink carries its own pattern. It measures 40 inches long, 20 inches wide and 6 inches high, and a 10 inch backsplash rises from the back edge. Hung on the wall, it gives a generous basin without taking up any floor space.
Design
Basin and backsplash in one stone
The backsplash is carved from the same marble as the basin, so the veining carries up from the sink onto the wall and the two read as one sculptural piece. It is practical too: It keeps water off the wall behind the sink. The whole piece is polished, which reflects light across the white stone and makes the basin feel larger. The 40 inch length gives a wide, comfortable work area for washing and grooming. Moderate variation in veining and tone between pieces is normal, so the pattern on each sink will differ.

At 40 by 20 inches, this sink suits a primary bathroom or a generous guest bath where it can be the main feature of the wall. Because it hangs on the wall, the floor underneath stays open, which keeps the room feeling light and makes the floor easy to clean. The backsplash comes pre-drilled with three faucet holes for a widespread faucet, so the faucet sits in the marble itself and the wall behind needs no separate tile.

Installation
Reinforce the wall first
Solid marble at this size is heavy, so the wall needs proper reinforcement before the sink goes up. Blocking between the studs at the mounting height is easiest to add while the wall is open. The sink is held by concealed steel brackets, which keep the floating look clean. Supply lines must be planned for the faucet holes in the backsplash, and the drain must line up with the basin outlet. Professional installation is recommended, both for the weight and for a secure mount.

Care
Calacatta Viola is a calcite marble and a porous stone, so acids such as vinegar, lemon juice or some toiletries can etch the polished surface and leave dull spots. The stone is sealed before use, and how often it is resealed depends on humidity and how much the sink is used.
